went running inthe morning - gorgeous views! tried diamond head again - denied, lot full. tried some local flavor (taro pie) at mcdonald's. went to hanuma bay - denied, lot full. drove up the east shore to bellows Air Force base where we spent a few hours on beautiful fine sand playing in some pretty good surf (very windy) with the boogie boards. showered off, had a late lunch and continued on up to the north shore. gorgeous drive with towering cliffs shrouded in mist on one side and palm trees and white capped turquoise water on the other. stopped at a fruit stand and had fresh cocinut water, mango and apple bananas. had shave ice on the north shore - no surfers to watch, in summer the action is south - but we got to see lots of feral chickens! matt got a ukelele and plans to make money by playing it! stopped at the dole plantation on the way back but they were closed, but we did get to see fields if pineapple in red earth. at the end of the day it was apparent that the sunblock I put on three hours prior to going in the water did not hold up to three more hours spent in the surf and I have the worst sunburn since high school! even tony got a bit red (he of course was not wearing sunscreen) luckily the kids did not get burned at all. and luckily we have a px at the hotel where I bought a long sleeve swim shirt that I will be wearing for the next several days!
