we had a very fun trip to the beach at the end of April - did i mention though that it was a bit COLD! we stayed at pacific beach - the hit of our hotel was the 20 person hot tub that the kids could use as a pool. we stayed two nights - and though we were a little concerned driving there in the late afternoon through pounding rain - the next morning we got some sun (and wind and cold - but some sun) and played - the kids wore out and got cold quickly in spite of multiple layers. we went to ocean shores (the interpretive center at south end is very good) and toured - had lunch then drove back north and east to lake quinalt. that was actually really neat - there are some beautiful old lodges up there and lots of hiking trails. we took two short trails - look at the pictures if you want to know why we took short trails (this was kaitlyn and matts' preferred mode of travel (on the shoulders)). the funniest part of this is when kaitlyn whined "why are we going up this hill" to which tony and i responded that she wasn't allowed to whine when she was being carried up the hill! we visited the world's largest known blue spruce. the next day we again had a little sun in the morning and we got to drive onto the beach (you can do this some places in washington) and fly the kite again - short again because of the cold! overall - lots of fun and especially since we got to play with abby and hayden at the children's museum on the way home.
