Walked to the train, matt and Kaitlyn stopped to play on the zipline and Kaitlyn shared her favorite snack with daddy - despite her face, she really does love them!
Took the train to gotojuki. we have japan rail passes, but some trains are Tokyo metro - not covered by the rail pass - the interesting thing is that we start on a JR train and it becomes a metro train! but kiwako was great in helping us all to get it all figured out. Gotojuki is home to the temple of the waving cats (lucky cats - maneki neko). From the train station it was a short (1k) walk to the temple. once again I really enjoyed just walking through the residential areas - it's amazing how you just suddenly have a tiny little shop within the houses. matt wanted this picture below with a maneki neko before we even got to the temple!
OMG!!! look at all the maneki neko!! it was amazing, awesome and totally worth the trip. the temple is huge and apparently is also a tourist site for it's zen architecture. the picture above was taken by Kaitlyn.
after purchasing a few maneki neko at the temple store, we headed back towards the train station. matt wanted to stop in at the grocery store and we had an impromptu snack of fried chicken (matt) fried calamari (Kaitlyn and tony) and coffee milk (me). a woman was giving out free milk samples - I think matt conned her into a few! and she gave matt some free clips for the milk tops.
shortly after the grocery store we ran into the is pizza place - at $5/pizza we couldn't pass it up - we ordered two to share (cheese and garlic and potato and bacon). and it was really good thin crust pizza!!
back to the train - short trip to the meiji temple - the largest temple in Tokyo. it was quite impressive (even though under construction).
Kaitlyn and matt have become quite good and the handwashing/mouth-rinsing procedure at each temple.
above are large jugs of sake to consecrate the ground of the emperor.
tony and I won some free sunglasses at the grand opening of the sketchers store and Kaitlyn got a teddy bear balllon!
takeshita dori - shopping street - amazingly crowded, lots! of crepe stores, lots of people hawking things and telling you to come into their stores.
mmmm... spent a bit at the lindt store. matt ate macaroons and Kaitlyn and I shared a very yummy (and very pricey) chocolate iced drink
an intersection in shibuyu. pedestrian traffic can cross in all directions. it was so busy!
hapi neko cat café!! lots of kitties! - I miss my kitties, but it was good to get to pet some today!
matt filled out a wish to get a free pen!
outside the shibuyu station - a statue to a dog that faithfully met his master at the station every day, even after his master passed away.
taiyaki making at the food court downstairs in the tokyu grocery store. food court doesn't do it justice. we were there for about 45 minutes and tony probably could have spent hours!!! so..much...food. tony said he doesn't understand how everyone stays so thin.
on the train home - passing another train - can you see all the people packed in? yep - that's what ours looked like too!!
