matt waiting at the end of tony's uncles street for us to head out this morning. we walked to the train station and headed in to Ueno.
Tony and his uncle at the National Museum campus - unfortunately the science museum was closed for maintenance. The national museum was nice, though not a huge hit with kids and since it was raining lots of outside things (teahouses, patios) were closed.

lunch at a ramen shop at the train station (which is huge, with tons of shops). the shop was tiny, kiwako and satoru ordered for us from a machine - the machine gives you slips that you then put on the counter where you sit (when you get a seat!) kiwako was able to explain to the staff that matt wanted only noodles and broth - but unfortunately, though the noodles were fantastic, matt was not a fan. thankfully they had white rice with soy sauce!
cute and yummy!
dragon blessings at a shrine
we ran into this place on our walking tour. all kinds of cat signs, cat statues and one real cat! - real, but skittish! I really enjoyed the walking tour, it was neat to see how the shops and temples and shrines are just randomly interspersed into the houses. The houses are built inches apart from each other and on such narrow roadways that they feel like alleys to us americans.
walked through a graveyard on the way home - just like the houses - right next to each other!
