We left Sea Tac in the late afternoon, getting in around midnight to Kona. We saw a special guest at the airport before we left!
We took a cab to uncle billy's hotel where we stayed the first night. banana trees! kaitlyn and i took a cab back to the airport and picked up our rental car. then matthew, kaitlyn and i explored Kona a bit while Tony went for a run. A little pool time and a trip to costco for essential supplies (see last picture!) and then we headed south.

We went to Punalu'u black sand beach. the giant sea turtles were neat, though sleepy and the kids got some beach time.
We arrived in Volcanoes National Park at dusk and warmed up at the steam vents. We checked into our cottage at the military camp there and grabbed some dinner at the snack bar.
