Italy - Day 6 - Florence to Venice

Matthew and I were once again awake for a few hours in the middle of the night.  Made everyone get up when the alarm went off at 9:30am - managed to get everyone up, ready and packed by 10:20 (check out time was 10:30) - this airbnb managed multiple properties so had an office a few doors down for us where we were able to store our luggage for the day.  Had my chocolate croissant and caffeelatte at a local coffee shop and kaitlyn had a sandwich and orange juice (most places have a fresh orange juice maker - yummy!)  Finally figuring out how to pay (one price if you stand and eat at counter, a different if you sit - either way, you pay after you eat, not when you get your food.  Went to the Duomo for our 11:30a time to climb and all 4 of us made it to the top in spite of claustrophobia and fear of heights among us!  The climb wasn't bad as there were several windows.  The view was amazing!  You could see the whole city and some of the beautiful countryside.  Afterwards we waited in a short line to go into the cathedral and downstairs into the excavated remains of earlier.  Matthew wanted a gelato and we ended up overpaying for one so we could use the restrooms at a snooty restaurant.  We then headed to the Piazza Vecchio where the David replica stands in the spot that the original David used to stand.  Lunch was seafood pasta for Tony, pasta arrabiata for me and we let Kaitlyn indulge in a hamburger.  Then back to pick up luggage and head to the train station.  Kaitlyn picked up a cute stuffed animal boar (boar hunting is big around here - most restaurants have a boar sauce pasta) at a gift shop on the way.  We got to Venice at 6pm, walked out of the train station and there is the grand canal!  Our airbnb host had given us good instructions on what vaparetto to take to the Rialto Bridge and she met us there.  She showed us aroud a bit and took us to the apartment (5min walk from the bridge).  The windows open right up onto a canal!  Tony and I went to the local grocery to stock up on milk and snacks and I stopped for an arancita (like a roman suppli) - it had saffron in it - super yummy.  I traded out Tony for Kaitlyn and we went gelato hunting.  Then back to plan the next day!
